View Article  HOW TO JOIN FAMILIES UNITED

Joining Families United has many benefits to you and your family. These are:

1.     FUN activities are limited to members only and details will only be sent to those families who have returned their forms and paid the annual subscription.

2.     Completion and return of the ensures  that  the  family as a whole is a member of  FUN  and  that  parents  and  guardians over 18 have a vote at the Annual General Meeting.  This will give you an opportunity to shape the future of your group.

3.     Parents and guardians over 18 completing the form are also eligible to stand for election onto the Families United Committee.

The database will be kept and maintained by the FUN office and information provided will be confidential to relevant committee members of Families United.   Your personal information will not be used for any purposes what so ever or given to any external agencies without prior agreement.

Annual membership is a one off payment of £12.00 for the year 2010/2011 and covers membership for the whole family.  Kindly return your cheque (made out to Families United) with completed membership forms to the address on the letterhead.

A 'Permission to use photographs etc for publicity purposes' is downloadable so we can be sure you agree family photographs may be used in our newsletters or publicity articles.   Could all those on the database over the age of 18 also sign the Database Agreement Form indicating their agreement to the information being kept on the database?

A “Gift Aid Declaration” allows you to make a voluntary donation to the group which will not be subject to tax.  Please be assured that you are under no obligation to send a donation or to use this form but for those wishing to make a donation to the group this is the preferred way now.

Should you have any queries please contact Jill Oakes on 01925 815557, who will be pleased to assist.

Monthly Newsletter listing activities & events, news & reviews,

Social Activities – Weekend and school holiday trips provide a social platform for families with a disabled child. They are a great opportunity for the whole family to gain social interaction with other families, which is often not possible when caring for a disabled child. Over 12’s have the opportunity to go on a canal boat trip and bowling, the whole family can access swimming parties, trips to the seaside and visits to the sensory play centres and farms. All activities are regularly featured in our monthly newsletter. Activities are planned for each age range once a month.

Saturday F.UN Club- this caters for some 20 disabled children and young people alongside their siblings.  The group is informal with plenty of opportunity for play and also to experience all the different forms of art.  Recent activities have included music sessions, puppets, magicians and general painting and use of art materials.  Parents of children under 10 also attend and find it an invaluable source of support.

Christmas Activities- we at F.UN like our members to have some FUN at what can sometimes be a very difficult time of year.  The activities provided by the panto and the party allow all the family to enjoy themselves with other families in similar situations.  The party is usually attended by over 75 children and is a major success with the inevitable appearance of Father Christmas along side entertainment with a disco and entertainer. Last year over 50 children went to the Panto.

Parent Support Group for Mums & Dads with visitng speakers, or social get-togethers.

Dad's Support Group - a chance for Dads to meet up socially bi-monthly.

Sibling Support Group- siblings of disabled children can often feel left out when their brother and sister is ill or needs a lot more attention than themselves. Sibling support groups have been established to help support these youngsters by giving them opportunities for activities just for them and time away from the family in a supportive environment.  They have proved to be very beneficial for young people and F.UN would like to extend this opportunity to the sibling members of the group in 2009.

Toy Library – Parents and professionals have the opportunity to use specialist toys for their children, helping them to learn and have F.UN. Information will be passed to children and parents via our newsletter, in relation to toys and equipment available. The Library takes place once a month for parents and children to have a “drop in” session at the F.UN Office.
